Before you start

Please read this first.

This is an estimate to help you think, and nothing more. It is not a decision, it is not a bill, and it is not benefits counseling. Social Security decides your real check. Before you change your hours or turn down a job, talk to us or to a benefits counselor. We will sit down and go through it with you, and there is no charge.

This page is about Supplemental Security Income, which most people just call SSI. It is not for SSDI and not for retirement benefits. If you are not sure which one you get, call us on (407) 813-2112 and we will help you work it out.

Planning the hours

Put in an hourly wage and the hours a week. SSI is worked out month by month, so this turns the week into an average month for you.

Your planning estimate

Gross wages each week$0.00
Average gross wages each month$0.00
Estimated amount SSI may go down by$0.00
Estimated SSI check afterward$0.00
Estimated wages and SSI together$0.00

A planning note.

Weekly hours do not turn into the same wages every calendar month. Pay schedules, an extra payday, unpaid time and other rules all move the figure. Report the real wages to Social Security, and check anything important with them or with a benefits counselor.

What this estimate does not know about.

SSI changes for reasons this page cannot see: income that is not wages, who somebody lives with, a spouse's or a parent's income, the student earned income exclusion for people under 22, blind work expenses, a PASS plan and state supplements. This page works out the ordinary wage rule and nothing else. Always tell Social Security about work and wages.

The figures this page uses, checked on 10 August 2026.
  • The most SSI pays in 2026 is $994 a month for one person, and $1,491 for a couple.
  • The first $20 of most income is not counted. This is the general income exclusion.
  • The first $65 of what you earn is not counted, and then only half of the rest counts.
  • Together that is the $85 this page takes off before halving what is left.
  • If you are a student under 22, more of your pay may be ignored: up to $2,410 a month and $9,730 a year in 2026. This page does not work that out.

Social Security changes these numbers most Januarys, so they want checking once a year.

Official sources: Social Security: how much you could get from SSI and Social Security: SSI work incentives. The figures on this page should be checked at least once a year, because Social Security changes them.
